Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich, Governor Wes Moore, and other key figures recently unveiled the selection of Hines as the master developer for an ambitious project at the North Bethesda Metro Station. This 13.9-acre site is primed to become a nexus of life sciences and artificial intelligence, anchored by the new University of Maryland Institute for Health Computing (UM-IHC). According to the Montgomery County Government, the project is a significant leap in bringing Maryland's strengths in biotech and computing into synergy with residential and commercial opportunities.

As Elrich expressed, this initiative is the culmination of a collaborative vision. "More than five years ago, I approached University of Maryland about bringing graduate level research using AI to drive drug discovery and medical research to Montgomery County," Elrich recounted, detailing the pursuit to position the development strategically along the 355 corridor for proximity to pivotal research hubs like NIH.

The Governor highlighted the broader implications of the project for the state. "Together, we are transforming North Bethesda into a hub for innovation, opportunity, and growth," Gov. Moore said, signaling the administration's optimism for the development to improve local transit and attract people from across the region. Moore's vision, as told to Montgomery County Government, foresees a Maryland leading in STEM fields, job creation, and inclusive opportunities.
